MJ Ultra Live in Shibuya

Last night saw the all new MJ Ultra play live at the Ruby Room in Shibuya. I felt the show went well and we seemed to fly through our 45 minute set.

For the record our set list was:
Fall Skywards
Prism Cell
Goddess Temple
La Humanity
Perfect Sunrise
Smooth Strings
Solo Dreams
Metroland

Just want to say thanks to all the folks who turned up to see us. So thanks to Ali, Archie, Nick and Johnny. Thanks to all the Coppe entourage. And thanks to all of Jakey's family and friends. Most if all thanks to the staff of the Ruby Room for having us there.

Special thanks to Tommy Cuellar who came over to snap us in action. Below is a pic of me. There will be more pictures of us coming soon when we launch our website mjultra.com.

A man without a mission

I'm thinking about a new video project for this spring but I can't find anything that really makes me shake with excitement. I may consider having another go at making History and I would like to make a video for one of MJ Ultra's songs, but, at the moment I seem to spend my life on trains either on my way to work, to the studio or to the shops.

Not much happening right now which is why I look a little miserable in the pic below.

Nine Inch Nails : Closer

I have been thinking about posting this video for a while now because I wasn't sure if I wanted something this provocative on my blog, but what the hell...it's one of my favorite songs (I love the version at the beginning of Se7en) and, it's by one of my favorite music video directors Mark Romanek.

Nine Inch Nails - Closer

You get me closer to God

Don't call us we'll call you...

Waiting. def.
A waiting period is a period of time which one must wait in order for a specific action to occur.

I haven't been blogging as much as usual recently basically because everything is at a bit of a stand still with both my films and music. MJ Ultra, my band, are still looking for our first live show as a 3 piece but so far we haven't had any luck confirming a date or a venue despite the best efforts of Jakey. We have been rehearsing now and working on our 'performance' as a band. And we sound really good now, all the feedback we've been getting has been very positive. But, we're like a bulldog chewing at the bit.

As well as that we have been making a few nice connections in the 'music biz' that may bear fruit in the future. The band will be in something of a hiatus from next month as Jakey is going on tour with Japanese artist Cornelius, so the desire to get a live show done seems more urgent.

As for Rain, well I haven't heard back from 100 Meter Films yet. I could take the attitude that 'no news is good news' but I guess I need to up my game and start looking elsewhere for funding and production.

Sometimes being an 'Artist' can be really frustrating. Good job the pub is just down the road so I can enjoy a pint.

Rain : A Tokyo Story page at TPJ

I have added a short video to the Rain page at tribalpicturesjapan.com. It features a slice of music by Richard Slater and art images by Michi Kudoh all sliced and diced together by me.

MJ Ultra rehearsal night

Tonight MJ Ultra, my band, had our usual weekly rehearsal in Yokohama. Nothing extraordinary about that except that tonight we had a small audience. It went well and here's a blurry keitai snap of us in full swing...I'm the guy with the red t-shirt. Singing is Mikko and on bass (left) is Richard 'Jakey' Slater.
