Shooting BLOODSHOT

These are some of my favorite production stills. All taken on location when we were shooting BLOODSHOT in October 2004. Thanks to Katherine Pham Do.
We made a slide show of about 25 or so for the BLOODSHOT DVD but these were 4 that have special meaning to me.

The first 3 are all filmed at the Pink Cow in Shibuya. The first one I like because it's me in the background trying to get the sound set-up correctly and I like the second one because it shows me trying to give my actors a bit of emotional support - for some reason actors need that, right?

The Pink Cow is a really cool art bar and the staff there are really into 'The Arts' so they had no qualms about us filming there.

The last one is taken on location in Yokohama and I like the fact that Tom and Ali are captured running through a few lines before I say 'action'.

The BLOODSHOT Party

The BLOODSHOT first screening party was held in Kawasaki in late October. Attending that day were (from L-R) JR (American Director, made short Monster Removal Service), Richard Slater (British Musician, composer of Bloodshot's original theme), Ali Jaffer (Canadian Actor, Star of Bloodshot), Yuka Nakai (Japanese Actress, Star of Bloodshot), Richard Loffman (British Writer & Director), and in the front Rob Moreno (American Post Production Wizard). Picture was taken by my wife.

BLOODSHOT Actor 3: Fred & Sho Kosugi

One of the most interesting aspects of making a short film in Tokyo was that I got to meet a lot of actors and many of them were professional or semi-pro. One of these guys was Kuzuki 'Fred' Nakanishi. Fred, as he likes to be known, usually works for the Sho Kosugi Film & Theatre Company. Sho Kosugi is famous for playing samurai and ninja in film and TV dramas. Fred has often played these kind of roles, so playing the doctor in my film BLOODSHOT was a first for him because he got to play a different kind of role and to act in English. His previous role to that was as an extra on 'The Last Samurai' so he was comparing my skills as a director with those of Ed Zwick (?????)

Anyway to find out more about Sho Kosugi click on this:

BLOODSHOT Actor 2: Yuka Nakai

Yuka plays 'Cathy 'in BLOODSHOT. She's the girl that gets strangled to death. She's a Keio University student which is one of the top universities in Japan. But she decided to appear in my short film.

BLOODSHOT Actor 1: Tom Melesky

I've gotta say that I think Tom Melesky is a fine actor. He played the character of the Angel in BLOODSHOT and was probably the best - gomen Ali - thing about the film. Professional and prepared. Thanks Tom.

Caught In The Acid Rain

The other day I was caught in the rain (actually this was a few months ago) and I was thinking about my next project.
GIRL ALONE.
I need an actress and I think I will try my hand at a little acting. Just gotta find the right girl!

Production of BLOODSHOT

This picture was taken by the Bloodshot Producer Kathy Pham Do. It shows Ali Jaffer and Dana Hunter (cool Canadian actress) rehearsing a scene. In this scene a psychologist interviews the man and he tells us about his strange dreams. This was shot in a 'Gaijin' house in central Tokyo. The girl sat in front of them, reading the script, is Kaneko Tani, my Production Assistant.
